Petroleum Tanker Drivers Lament Over Poor Working Conditions

Chairman of the National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union George Nyanu says their conditions of service are a major challenge, especially their salaries.

He says since 2017 there has not been any adjustment to the wages.

Addressing the media, he called on relevant stakeholders to prioritize the working conditions of drivers among other issues on the table to be discussed.

Mr Nyanu says drivers take home salaries don’t meet the standard of living in the country.

“Our condition of service is a big challenge in the industry. Tanker drivers take very low salaries looking at the hazardous conditions under which we work in. We cannot compare our salaries to that of our colleagues in neighboring countries. In 2017, we had an MOU with tanker owners and NPA concerning our salaries but since then nothing has been done on our salaries. Drivers salaries ranges between 300 and 1500 Ghana cedis, considering the economic hardships, “He said.
