Abena Osei affirms govt’s commitment to improving healthcare professionals’ well-being

Abena Osei Asare, Deputy Minister for Finance, has strongly indicated the government’s determination to implement the proposed conditions of service for medical doctors.

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has been advocating for improved pensions and the ability for doctors at a specific level to retire on their salaries.

Additionally, the GMA seeks tax exemptions for vehicles imported by its members.

Abena Osei Asare clarified that Parliament has already passed a law granting exemptions, specifically addressing the demand for tax waivers on vehicles imported by doctors.

She expressed gratitude for the government’s action, stating, “Thankfully, the exemptions bill was passed last year, positioning us to engage further. We believe this commitment will alleviate the transportation challenges faced by our doctors, enabling them to provide high-quality and timely healthcare.”

Highlighting the crucial role of health professionals, she affirmed the government’s dedication to ensuring the well-being of doctors.

She emphasized that healthcare professionals are vital to the health system and that addressing their welfare is essential for enhancing healthcare delivery in Ghana.
