VRA engineers lauded for managing Akosombo Dam Spillage
The President of the Ghana Institution of Engineering, Ing. Kwabena Bempong, praised the Volta River Authority (VRA) for its engineering decisions during the recent controlled spill of the Akosombo Dam.
Ing. Bempong commended VRA’s efforts to balance preserving the dam’s integrity and preventing loss of life, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between VRA and the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GHIE) to ensure engineering decisions are based on facts and data.
Ing. Dr Kwame Boakye, a past president of GHIE, lauded the engineering team at VRA, stating that Ghana possesses some of the best engineering minds in the world.
High Court Judge Solomon Oppong-Twumasi also commended VRA’s work, and VRA’s Chief Executive reiterated the organization’s commitment to restoring affected communities.
The VRA presented its preparedness plan and the rationale behind the controlled dam spill to over 300 engineers and associates at the Engineering Centre, Ghana Institution of Engineering.
The presentation also showcased VRA’s relief projects and support provided to NADMO for the affected communities.
