Tyson Foods recalls 30,000 pounds of chicken nuggets after metal pieces found
Tyson Foods, an American meat processor, has initiated a recall of approximately 30,000 pounds (13,608 kilograms) of chicken nuggets due to the discovery of metal fragments in the product.
The company described the recall as a precautionary measure.
These nuggets, shaped like dinosaurs and known as “Fun Nuggets,” were manufactured at one facility and distributed to nine U.S. states, including Alabama, California, and Illinois.
The U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) reported one incident of minor oral injury related to the product.
Tyson has urged individuals concerned about injuries or illnesses to seek medical attention.
The affected nuggets bear a “use by” date of September 4, 2024.
In a statement, Tyson noted that a few consumers reported discovering small, pliable metal pieces in the product, prompting the recall.
Tyson advised customers who purchased the product to dispose of it and contact the company.
This is not the first time Tyson, the largest meat producer in the U.S. based on sales, has had to issue a recall.
In November of the previous year, the company recalled ground beef due to the presence of “mirror-like” material in the meat.
In 2019, Tyson recalled a batch of chicken nuggets after customers found pieces of blue rubber inside.
In the same year, millions of pounds of chicken strips were recalled amid concerns about potential contamination with metal.
In 2022, Tyson shut down several chicken processing plants in the U.S. due to a decrease in demand.
However, as the prices of beef and pork surged, many consumers turned to more affordable poultry, raising hopes that increased demand would boost profits for food companies.
Tyson is set to report its latest quarterly earnings on November 13.
