MPs to question Kan-Dapaah this week regarding the reported military assault in Garu
On November 9, 2023, the National Security Minister, Albert Kan-Dapaah, is expected to address Parliament regarding the alleged military attacks on residents of Garu and Tempane in the Upper East Region.
These attacks left over 50 people hospitalized. The incidents were reported to be in retaliation for an earlier attack on National Security operatives by a local vigilante group.
In response to calls for an investigation by Members of Parliament, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, directed the Minister to brief the legislators on the matter.
The Minister’s appearance aims to clarify the circumstances surrounding the attacks and the government’s response.
Additionally, it has been reported that one of the victims of the military brutalities in Garu and Tempane has unfortunately passed away.
Several residents who were arrested have been released, with some requiring medical attention. The local Member of Parliament expressed disappointment in the military’s actions and called for compensation for the victims, as well as potential legal action.
He emphasized the need for the government to address this issue and urged respect for the rights of the people.
