South Africa: At least 20 injured after restaurant balcony collapses
A balcony at a popular restaurant in Cape Town, South Africa, collapsed on Thursday evening, resulting in injuries to at least 21 individuals.
The incident occurred during a celebration of First Thursday, a monthly cultural event in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
Details about the exact cause of the collapse are currently unclear.
According to Charlotte Powell, a spokesperson for Cape Town’s disaster risk management, 21 patients were transported to various hospitals in the aftermath of the incident.
The building housing the restaurant was described as old by Rashied Kamaldien, the maintenance manager, who also mentioned that the building was originally designed for residential flats.
