Paramount Chief Of Sefwi Wiawso Pushes For The Establishment of Cocoa Processing Industry
The Paramount Chief of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area, Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama II, has passionately implored President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to consider the establishment of a cocoa processing industry in Sefwi Wiawso as an integral component of the One-District, One-Factory program.
He made this request during a grand durbar held to conclude the MTN 2023 Eluo Festival (Yam Festival) in Sefwi Wiawso.
The theme of the festival, “Promoting Proactive Socio-Economic Development in the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area: The Responsibility of Traditional Leaders,” set the stage for Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama II’s call to action.
During his speech, Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama II, a representative in the Western North Region’s House of Chiefs and the Council of State, commended President Akufo-Addo for the establishment of the Western North Region.
He underscored the fact that the inception of this new region had spurred various extensive projects, with some already completed and others currently in progress.
Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama II underscored the historical importance of the request, noting that the aspiration for a cocoa processing industry in the region had been a longstanding ambition that predates President Akufo-Addo’s tenure in office.
His Royal Majesty emphasized that the concept of establishing a cocoa processing industry in Sefwi Wiawso had garnered support from influential figures in the country, including Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II.
He proceeded to express confidence that the President’s efforts, even as his term in office approaches its conclusion next year, could lay the foundation for subsequent administrations to continue pursuing this vision.
Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama II underscored the potential advantages of such an establishment, stressing that it would not only generate employment opportunities but also act as a deterrent against the involvement of youth in illicit activities.
His Royal Majesty firmly believed that the presence of the factory could play a crucial role in addressing the increasing rates of unemployment in the Western North region.
“We, the Chiefs of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area, are still looking forward to this dream becoming a reality,” Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama II said.
