France: Veiled woman shot by police after “making threats”
A woman who was allegedly threatening bystanders in southern Paris was shot by French counterterrorism police, according to a police source.
The woman, who was shot in the abdomen, is said to be critically but stable.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at the Bibliothèque François-Mitterrand train station, following an alert from passengers.
The veiled woman had reportedly threatened to blow herself up, prompting the police to intervene.
Earlier this month, an attacker shouted “Allahu Akbar,” or “God is greatest,” at a school in northern France, killing a teacher and critically injuring two more.
Following the event, France increased the level of its counterterrorism security alert to the highest.
The northern Parisian district of Saint-Ouen’s mayor denounced on Monday an incident in which a resident’s property had stars of David daubed on it.
Karim Bouamrane demanded that the graffiti writers face the harshest legal consequences possible for their “antisemitic and racist” writing.
