Akosombo dam spillage has been concluded by VRA
The Volta River Authority (VRA) has officially concluded the controlled spillover from the Akosombo dam, as stated in their announcement on October 30, 2023.
They expressed gratitude for the support extended by government agencies and stakeholders to the affected communities.
Despite ending the controlled spillover, the VRA remains committed to ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts until the lives and livelihoods of the affected residents are fully restored.
They acknowledge the support received from various government agencies and stakeholders.
On October 28, Ing. Edward Obeng-Kenzo, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of VRA, reported a significant reduction in water inflow into the Akosombo dam.
The water level had dropped to an acceptable level by October 27, attributed to the closure of the gate and the reduced amount of water released.
The controlled water spillage from the Akosombo and Kpong Dams began on September 15, 2023, in response to a consistent rise in inflow patterns and the water level of the Akosombo reservoir.
This action led to the flooding of homes in various areas, including South Tongu, North Tongu, Central Tongu, Asuogyaman, and more.
Numerous stakeholders extended assistance to the affected communities by providing relief items during this challenging period.
