CAF Disapproves Of The Use Of Cape Coast Stadium As Medeama’s Group Stage Home Venue

The Confederation of African Football has disapproved of the Cape Coast Sports Stadium as one of the Champions League group stage venues after its latest venue inspection.

The Cape Coast Stadium served as the home venue for reigning Betpawa Ghana Premier League Champions Medeama SC during the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.

The football regulatory body carried out the inspection at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium in anticipation of the CAF inter-club competitions that are scheduled to take place next month.

A decision was reached to deny the use of the venue for the CAF Champions League group stage.

According to the findings of the CAF inspection team, the Cape Sports Stadium required some renovations in order to meet CAF rules.

Taking everything into account, this meant that the stadium needed to be renovated in order to satisfy the requirements and standards of a modern football stadium.

Medeama will be forced to play home games at the Kumasi Baba Yara Stadium since it is the only venue that meets the CAF requirements.

The CAF Champions League group stage matches will begin on Friday, November 25, 2023, and end on March 1 and 2, 2024, and Medeama will face group stage opponents in Young Africans from Tanzania, Algerian Champions CR Belouizdad, and defending Champions Al Ahly SC.

In the first round of the group stage, Medeama will play Al-Ahly in Cairo. In the second round, they will host Belouizdad at Baba Yara Stadium.

The next home games are scheduled against Al Ahly and the Young Africans, respectively.
