“When we win, these MPs will be cleaned up. We will campaign against them” -Ken Agyapong’s Campaign threatens to target MPs backing Bawumia
The campaign team of Kennedy Agyapong, a presidential hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has issued a stern warning to Members of Parliament (MPs) who are supporting Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the party’s presidential primaries.
They have vowed to work towards unseating these MPs if their candidate emerges victorious, viewing it as the only way to ensure cooperation with their proposed agenda for change.
Chairman of the Kennedy Agyapong Campaign team, Kwame Owusu, expressed bewilderment at the failure of Mr. Agyapong’s good friends, such as Alexander Afenyo-Markin and K.T. Hammond, to publicly endorse his candidacy.
“Honourable K.T Hammond is the best friend of Kennedy Agyapong, Minister of Trade, he has not been able to endorse him. Afenyo-Markin is the best friend of Kennedy Agyapong, he has not been able to endorse him,” Owusu remarked.
He suggested that these MPs may feel psychologically intimidated and, to protect their positions, are inclined to support the other camp. As a response, the campaign team plans to target these MPs if Kennedy Agyapong wins, with the aim of campaigning against their reelection.
“It is because they are psychologically intimidated and we knew because of that and to protect their jobs they are going to go to the other side. When we get the chance to win, most of these MPs will be cleaned up. We will campaign against them,” he stated.
Additionally, Mr. Owusu acknowledged that the campaign team has resorted to offering financial incentives to some delegates in the run-up to the November 4 presidential primaries.
Their decision to provide financial inducements was in reaction to the substantial amounts being distributed to delegates by Dr. Bawumia’s campaign.
The intense competition and complex dynamics surrounding the NPP’s presidential race have led to a variety of campaign tactics and strategies, including financial incentives and political maneuvering.
