OSP’s plea to disqualify Justice Twum from Cecilia Dapaah case declined by CJ
The Chief Justice of Ghana, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, has declined the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) request to disqualify Justice Edward Twum from the Cecilia Dapaah case.
The OSP had submitted a petition, alleging that Justice Twum displayed bias against the OSP and requested his removal from all cases involving Cecilia Dapaah. However, the Chief Justice has rejected this petition.
The OSP revealed in a statement that they were informed by the Judicial Secretary that the Chief Justice couldn’t grant the OSP’s request to recuse Justice Edward Twum from all cases involving the OSP.
The request by the OSP was based on their belief that Justice Edward Twum exhibited significant prejudice against the OSP and the Special Prosecutor.
During a previous court session presided over by Justice Twum on October 12, the court had to adjourn the proceedings until a later date due to the pending request for his removal from the case.
Furthermore, the court was unable to proceed with the case in which the former sanitation minister is charged with failing to declare her assets.
This was because the lawyers from the Office of the Special Prosecutor did not appear in court, as they were awaiting the outcome of their petition to have Justice Twum removed from all their cases.
