GHS Confirms There Are No Reports Of Disease Outbreaks In The Affected Communities

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has expressed satisfaction with the state of health in the affected Tongu Districts, even though there has been recent flooding and subsequent water stagnation.

In an interview, the GHS Director-General, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, stated that they were happy that no disease outbreaks had been detected in the two weeks following the accident. Kuma-Aboagye visited several impacted communities in the three Tongu Districts.

He also pointed out that any illnesses currently found within the community are already existing conditions.

He said, “We are quite satisfied that two weeks into this disaster, we have not had any outbreak of disease, which often happens in many countries and many places. So, we have simply come to support the districts in continuing the work they are doing.”

in addition, Dr Aboagye noted that” “We have brought some relief items, as well as mental health experts and psychologists, to assess the situation and determine what needs to be done. In the long term, those who have been displaced will need psycho-social support, and we are also here to look at the plight of the 271 health workers who are part of the displaced community.
