As part of Beach FM’s Breastie Bestie initiative to convey the awareness of breast cancer to the public, the Sales Head at GLICOHealth, Nathaniel Kwame Coffie, has reiterated the importance of an individual having health insurance, to cover health needs when confronted with ailing conditions.

According to Mr. Kwame Coffie, health insurance does not have a stand-alone policy to cover cancer, which sometimes deters people from getting an overall insurance package.

Treatment of ailments like breast cancer is expensive and insurance alone will not cover it.

Mr. Kwame Coffie urges individuals to the advantage of their healthy stance now, to get registered on an insurance package.

He posits that having a traditional insurance package, before being diagnosed with breast cancer provides you with the benefit of having some medical costs covered by the policy.

“It is always very important to have some insurance to cover our backs when we are faced with such conditions. Now that we are fit is the right time to take insurance. If you are on a policy before you are faced with such conditions, you have the opportunity to have drugs, chemo”.

In order to choose the right insurance plan, Mr. Kwame Coffie advised individuals to do the necessary research.

“There are some checkers you need to look at; what your needs are, the benefit limit, the cost. If you don’t ask the right questions you might pay for something that you cannot even use at all”

Mr. Kwame Coffie advises that people live a healthy lifestyle to reduce the chances of getting diseases.

He further lists some things that health insurance does not cover: “We don’t pay for hearing aids, dentures, implants, rehabilitation services, spas, termination of pregnancy unless on medical grounds, cosmetic procedures, etc….”.
