Two individuals are in critical condition at the Yilo Krobo Municipal Hospital in Somanya after sustaining gunshot wounds during a robbery at the Gaso fuel station on Monday.

In this incident, four armed men, including a woman, targeted the fuel station in Ogome, a busy suburb located just about 200 meters away from the SP GAS station where another robbery occurred two weeks ago.

Eyewitnesses reported that the armed robbers executed their operation swiftly, making off with an undisclosed sum of cash from the gas station’s attendants. They later stole GH¢28,000 from a mobile money vendor near the fuel station during their escape.

While fleeing the scene, the robbers fired multiple gunshots, injuring a gas station attendant. In an attempt to deter local residents, they indiscriminately fired more rounds, injuring two other people in the process.

One of the victims, who was rushed to the Yilo Krobo Municipal Hospital, remains in critical condition. The other victim was treated and discharged from the Somanya Poly Clinic, where they were initially taken.

This second robbery in less than two weeks has raised concerns among Yilo Krobo Municipality residents about their safety and security. Many believe that the local police lack the necessary resources for effective day and night patrols.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Yilo Krobo, Eric Tetteh, confirmed the incident and revealed that the Municipal Security Council plans to hold an emergency meeting with the Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Twumasi Ankra, to discuss the way forward.
