Government determined to assist the Akosombo Dam spillage victims
The government has reaffirmed its dedication to aiding the victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage in recovering and resuming normal lives.
Amid increasing calls for relocating the affected people to the Saglemi Housing project temporarily, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah emphasized the government’s immediate priority is to provide essential aid to the victims.
He noted that twenty dedicated centers have been set up to accommodate those affected by the flooding, preventing their situation from worsening during this challenging period.
The government also intends to support their return to their home communities once the water levels recede.
“These are our brothers and sisters in various parts of the region, and the topography is such that twenty centers have been set up to accommodate people from nearby villages affected by the flooding exercise.”
“The focus is to ensure that the people who have been relocated to these twenty centers are supported with the necessary food, sleeping materials, healthcare, etc, so that their situation does not become more precarious than it is now and then subsequent to that, when the water levels recede, to assist them to go back to their communities.”
