The city of Sekondi-Takoradi came alive with enthusiasm as Beach FM, an urban radio station, organized a health walk as part of their breast cancer awareness screening exercise.
The air was filled with a sense of purpose as 150 people gathered at the Takoradi Mall, all dressed in pink and white, to show their support for the cause.
The 7.3-kilometre walk starting from Takoradi Mall through Lagos Town to the premises of Beach FM witnessed over one hundred anti-breast cancer participants, made up of the public, reps from Tan Freight and Logistics, and doctors in service, walking through some selected principal streets of Takoradi amidst music and dancing.
October has been dubbed “Pink Month” in an effort to increase awareness of breast cancer worldwide. Pink Month is a month dedicated to spreading awareness of the disease, including early detection and the signs and symptoms of breast cancer.
The walk is anchored on the firm resolve and determination to turn the corner in the campaign against this debilitating disease, which continues to ravage mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, and families in general, though treatment and cure abound.
The World Health Organization (WHO), said that every year, breast cancer kills more than 500,000 women around the world.
In resource-poor settings, a majority of women with breast cancer are diagnosed at an advanced stage of disease, resulting in low survival rates.
Patrons commended Beach FM for the initiative in carrying content that cautioned against practices predisposing women to the condition and the availability of a cure.
Beach FM’s #BreastieBestie campaign is sponsored by Tan Freight and Logistics, Animens Hotel, USA Masquerades Club, and Doctors In-Service Clinic.
