OSP revokes freezing order on five bank accounts of Cecilia Dapaah
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has announced the revocation of the freezing order placed on five bank accounts belonging to former Sanitation Minister Ms. Cecilia Dapaah.
However, it’s important to note that the freezing order remains in effect for her other bank accounts and financial assets.
The investigation, initiated in July 2023, pertains to allegations of corruption and related offenses involving substantial sums of money and valuable items associated with Ms. Cecilia Abena Dapaah. To facilitate the investigation, the Special Prosecutor had taken measures, including issuing the freezing order.
Upon further investigation, five of Ms. Dapaah’s bank accounts have been cleared of suspicion regarding any involvement in the alleged corrupt activities.
Background
Former Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Dapaah came under public scrutiny in July 2023 when reports emerged that her domestic helpers were facing legal action for the alleged theft of $1 million, 300,000 Euros, millions of cedis, and personal belongings worth thousands of Ghana Cedis and dollars belonging to the former minister and her husband.
In response to the public outrage, Ms. Dapaah resigned from her position and was subsequently arrested by the OSP.
During a search of her residence on July 24, 2023, OSP officials discovered US$590,000 and GHC2.730,000 in cash.
The OSP promptly seized this substantial amount of cash as crucial evidence for the ongoing investigation. Additionally, seven of Cecilia Dapaah’s bank accounts were frozen by the OSP in connection with the case.
