Akufo-Addo scheduled to visit communities affected by Akosombo Dam spillage today

Today, on Monday, October 16, 2023, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is set to visit communities that have been affected by the spillage of excess water from the Akosombo Dam.

This tour follows the President’s establishment of a nine-member inter-ministerial committee, chaired by the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, which is responsible for coordinating the distribution of relief items to victims of the spillage.

Due to the opening of the spillways at the Akosombo Dam, thousands of residents in the Central and North Tongu areas of the Volta Region have been displaced.

During the visit, President Akufo-Addo is expected to engage with local residents and community leaders and is likely to announce significant government interventions to address the situation.

The other members of the inter-ministerial committee, besides the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, include the Minister of National Security, Albert Kan-Dapaah; Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery; Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul; Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh; Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta; Minister of Local Government, Daniel Kwaku Botwe.

Other members are, Minister of Works and Housing, Francis Asenso-Boakye; Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Attah; Minister for Environment, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie; Minister for Sanitation, Freda Prempeh; Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel A. Jinapor; and Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.
