Provide Better Conditions Of Service For Health Workers – W/R, GRNMA Tells Government

Oppong Kweku Davis, Assistant Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, in the Western region, is of the view that providing health workers with the right conditions of service, will deter them from seeking greener pastures from other countries.

Ghana is facing a severe shortage of nurses as many of them are leaving the country for better-paid jobs in high-income countries like the UK and the US.

This phenomenon, known as “brain drain,” is affecting the quality and accessibility of health care in Ghana, especially in rural and specialized units.

According to data from the Association, over 4,000 nurses have left Ghana for Europe between January and July this year.

Mr. Oppong Kwaku Davis observes that the government has done nothing about improving the conditions of services of health workers.

He was speaking on the topic, Health Delivery: What’s the Future of Our Nurses? on Beach FM.

He says, that to address the issue of nurse migration from Ghana, there is a need for concerted efforts from the government and other stakeholders.

He also urged them to revisit the agreement and fulfill their part of it. This, he says, will make the health workers stay.
