The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is in the process of selecting a new parliamentary candidate for the Odododiodio constituency, following the decision of the incumbent MP, Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, not to contest.

As of now, three aspirants have submitted their nominations for the upcoming parliamentary election, scheduled for October 31, 2023.

Nii Adjebu Lamptey, who serves as the Chairman of the NDC Elections Committee in the Odododiodio Constituency, has urged party supporters in the area to exercise restraint in their statements and actions during the campaign.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and decorum throughout the internal competition within the NDC. The filing of nominations has proceeded smoothly, and he expressed hope that this would continue. The vetting process is set for Friday, with the election to follow as planned on October 31.

Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has represented the Odododiodio Constituency as its MP since 2013, but he is not seeking re-election.

During the 2012 elections, he faced off against Victor Okaikoi of the New Patriotic Party. Vanderpuye had expressed strong confidence in his victory, stating that he would concede the seat to Okaikoi if he received less than 65% of the vote. In the end, Vanderpuye secured 63% of the vote with 45,967 votes, while Okaikoi received 36% with 26,269 votes.

In December 2016, Vanderpuye was reelected as the MP for the Odododiodio Constituency, winning with 57.04% of the vote (36,606 votes), while the New Patriotic Party’s candidate secured 41.56% with 26,671 votes.
