ET Mensah the former Minister of Youth and Sports has passed away
ET Mensah, the former Member of Parliament for the Ningo-Prampram constituency and a Council of State member, has passed away at the age of 77.
Sources indicate that he passed away in South Africa last night after a period of battling with ill-health.
This follows the recent passing of former First Lady Theresa Kufuor on Sunday, October 1, 2023.
Enoch Teye Mensah, widely known as ET Mensah, served as a Member of Parliament in Ghana from January 1997 to January 2017 and held various ministerial positions, including Minister for Education. He was married and had seven children.
During the PNDC military regime in Ghana, he served as the Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), which is equivalent to the Mayor of the City of Accra.
He joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC) when it was established in 1992 and represented the Ningo-Prampram constituency in parliament for nearly a decade.
ET Mensah also served as the Minority Chief Whip in parliament and later as the Majority Chief Whip. He held ministerial roles in the Youth and Sports, Employment and Social Welfare, and Education sectors during his political career.
In 2021, he was unanimously elected as the representative of the Council of State for the Greater Accra Region.
His passing marks the end of a long and distinguished career in Ghanaian politics and public service.
