ECG apprehends a man involved in the alleged sale of counterfeit electricity meters
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has successfully apprehended an individual involved in the illicit sale of counterfeit electricity meters in the Adentan area after an extensive investigation spanning several months.
The suspect, who works as a carpenter, has confessed to his role in this illegal trade, which saw the sale of approximately 40 fake electricity meters at a price of GHc900 each.
The operation was carried out by the Accra East Region of the ECG, based on intelligence gathered in the Adentan New Site area.
The accused carpenter disclosed that he sourced these counterfeit meters from a local assembly member in his vicinity, who supplied them for resale. He purchased these fraudulent meters for GHc800 each and sold them at a profit of GHc900.
Paul Assibi Abariga, the General Manager responsible for Legal and Prosecution at ECG, has announced that the suspect will be arraigned on September 29, and efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend any potential accomplices involved in this illegal operation.
The alleged seller of these counterfeit meters admitted to engaging in the unauthorized sale of such meters for over seven months, during which he distributed approximately 40 of them.
This operation is a significant step in the ongoing fight against fraudulent activities in the electricity sector, ensuring that consumers receive genuine and reliable meters while holding wrongdoers accountable for their actions.
