Korle-Bu clarifies that it has not yet implemented the reviewed dialysis cost
The management of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital has issued a clarification, stating that they have not yet implemented the revised dialysis cost that was previously announced by the facility.
Earlier, a notice from the head of the hospital’s dialysis unit had indicated that the cost of renal dialysis would be increased from GHS¢380 to GHS¢765.42.
This announcement had raised concerns among the public about the affordability of this vital medical procedure.
In their statement, the hospital’s management explained that the proposed fee increase has not been put into effect because it has not yet been submitted to Parliament for approval.
Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the ranking member on the Health Committee of Parliament, expressed his concerns about the proposed fee, highlighting the financial burden it could impose on the public.
He emphasized that public health facilities should prioritize providing quality healthcare to the people and not focus on profit-making.
Akandoh also pointed out that there are private and quasi-health facilities that charge less than GHS¢700 for similar services while still operating effectively.
