Libya floods: Journalists asked to leave flood-hit Derna

All journalists have been asked to leave the devastated city of Derna, according to a minister in eastern Libya’s government.

In the wake of last week’s floods, the minister, Hisham Chkiouat, accused the media of impeding rescue efforts.

Demonstrators burned down the ousted mayor’s residence on Monday.

The disaster, which was brought on by two dams collapsing during torrential rains, was blamed by many locals saying could have been prevented.

A contract to repair the dams was never finished, according to officials.

The World Health Organization has confirmed that more than 3,900 people have died, although estimates of the number vary greatly. There are thousands more who remain missing.
