Land acquisition in Ghana is fraught with challenges such as multiple sales, numerous unofficial charges, unnecessary bureaucracies, and the intrusion of unqualified middlemen, among others.
Land acquisition can come from stool, personal, or public lands.
However stressful land registration is, the public is encouraged to do what is necessary to enjoy the benefits that come with it.
An Assistant Lands Administration Officer at the Lands Commission in Takoradi, Ama Boahemaa, underscored some of the benefits of land registration in an interview with Beach FM on the Mid Morning Lounge Show.
She mentioned security of tenure, access to secure bank loans, and notice of ownership as some benefits an individual enjoys when a land gets registered.
Mrs MyCall Obeng, the Administrator of the Western Regional Lands Commission urged individuals to visit their offices to address concerns and seek clarifications, and refrain from dealing with middlemen also known as ‘goro boys’
