Leaked tape: National Security Minister and Bugri Naabu to appear before committee today
The ad-hoc committee in Parliament, tasked with investigating the leaked tape concerning the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has issued summons for the National Security Minister, Kan Dapaah, and former Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bugri Naabu.
They are scheduled to appear before the committee on Wednesday, September 13, to further the ongoing investigation.
This development follows the appearances of the IGP and the three senior police officers implicated in the leaked tape before the committee on Tuesday.
Committee Chairman Samuel Atta Akyea emphasized that all witnesses must be accompanied by their legal representatives on Wednesday for the continuation of proceedings.
“The witnesses should come back tomorrow with their lawyers. The IGP should come with his lawyers, the Minister of National Security should show up with his lawyers and proceedings will continue,” he stated.
During Tuesday’s [September 12] proceedings, IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare categorically denied any involvement in a plot to secretly record conversations with Bugri Naabu.
The leaked tape investigation has generated significant public interest in recent weeks.
Addressing the Parliamentary Committee probing the audio, the IGP rejected allegations that he had conspired to secretly record conversations involving the three implicated police officers – COP Alex Mensah, Superintendent George Asare, and Superintendent Emmanuel Eric Gyebi – and Bugri Naabu.
Dr. Dampare reiterated his commitment to upholding the law and preserving the Ghana Police Service’s integrity. He affirmed his willingness to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation, pledging to provide any necessary information or assistance to uncover the truth behind the leaked tape.
