The Coalition of Aggrieved Customers of Menzgold (CACM) has made a heartfelt appeal to President Nana Akufo-Addo, urging him to extend a financial lifeline to them while they await the upcoming court hearing of Nana Appiah Mensah, the CEO of the defunct gold trading company.

The court date is set for September 19, 2023.

In addition to their plea, the CACM has announced plans to hold a vigil on Tuesday, September 12, in remembrance of those who tragically lost their savings due to the Menzgold debacle.

Fred Forson, the convenor of the CACM, expressed the group’s hope for President Akufo-Addo’s intervention in recovering their frozen funds while the criminal court proceedings unfold.

“We shall be making a reminder to the president of the republic to give us a financial bailout while the criminal case proceeds from September 19. Our contention is that Parliament has given an indication and the Attorney General has also made commitments with the filing of the new 39 charges.”

He emphasized that these actions have rekindled hope among the customers, and they believe it is time for the president to address the matter. Mr. Forson underscored the significance of the president’s involvement, as he has the ultimate authority in determining whether the customers will be reimbursed or not.

“These actions are bringing back life to the customers and we believe that it is time the president also speaks. If the president speaks, customers will have that sigh of relief because he has the last say on whether customers will be paid or not”, Mr. Forson said.

The Coalition of Aggrieved Customers of Menzgold represents individuals who invested their money in Menzgold, a gold dealership company that promised lucrative returns. However, the collapse of Menzgold in 2018 left numerous customers with their investments locked away.

For several years, this group has been actively protesting and advocating for government intervention to facilitate the retrieval of their funds.

The court hearing scheduled for September 19 represents the latest legal challenge for Nana Appiah Mensah, who is facing an array of 39 charges, including allegations of defrauding customers, money laundering, and operating an illegal investment scheme.
