The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has unequivocally refuted any involvement in a purported secret recording conspiracy with the former Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP, Daniel Bugri Naabu.
The leaked tape investigation, which has captivated public attention in recent weeks, took center stage as the IGP addressed the Parliamentary Committee tasked with probing the audio on Tuesday, September 12.
IGP Dampare dismissed allegations suggesting his complicity in a plot to clandestinely record conversations involving three implicated police officers – COP Alex Mensah, Superintendent George Asare, and Superintendent Emmanuel Eric Gyebi – along with Bugri Naabu.
He stressed his unwavering commitment to upholding the law and preserving the integrity of the Ghana Police Service.
The IGP asserted his full cooperation with the ongoing investigation, assuring the committee of his willingness to provide any necessary information or assistance required to unravel the truth behind the leaked tape.
Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been a central figure in the leaked tape controversy.
The leaked audio recordings purportedly contain conversations involving Naabu and other high-ranking police officials, allegedly discussing a plot to remove the IGP with the aim of influencing the outcome of the 2024 elections.
Furthermore, IGP Dampare expressed the personal distress caused by what he termed “wild allegations” made against him by the three police officers. COP Mensah, during his appearance before the committee, claimed that the IGP had orchestrated the recording of the audio with Bugri Naabu and possessed the unedited version.
