IGP expected to make an appearance regarding “leaked tape” on September 12th

Atta Akyea

Samuel Atta Akyea, who chairs the 7-member ad-hoc committee investigating the alleged plot to remove the Inspector General of Police, has disclosed that Dr. George Akuffo Dampare is scheduled to appear before the committee on Tuesday, September 12th.

Additionally, Mr. Atta Akyea has revealed that the three senior police officers – COP Alex Mensah, Superintendent George Asare, and Superintendent Emmanuel Eric Gyebi – who have already testified before the committee, will return with their legal representatives on the same date.

He further mentioned that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) himself is expected to attend the committee hearing with his legal team.

Regarding the allegations made in public, Mr. Atta Akyea emphasized that the committee’s objective is to uncover the evidential support for these allegations while exercising discretion to protect national security when disclosing information to the public.

Meanwhile, Franklin Cudjoe, the President of the policy think tank IMANI Africa, has criticized the committee’s ongoing proceedings.

He believes that the committee’s work should have concluded when the witnesses admitted to their voices being on the tape and confirming some of the attributed statements.

He questioned the committee’s decision to continue with what he described as “storytelling,” particularly from the police officers, which he believes has led to a reconsideration of the Ghana Police Service’s role and mandate.
