African Union expected to receive permanent G20 membership

G20

At the G20 summit in Delhi, officials are expected to announce the addition of the African Union as the latest member.

In order to give developing nations a bigger voice in international decision-making, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for the pan-African organization to be a permanent member of the G20.

The United States has also agreed to support the proposal.

Charles Michel, president of the European Council, said he looked forward to welcoming the AU to the bloc.

The only member of the organization from the continent at the moment is South Africa.
