The New Patriotic Party (NPP), has denied using intimidation strategies to win support for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia at the party’s Super Delegates Conference, in response to allegations made by Alan Kyerematen.
Dr. Tiah Abdul-Kabiru Mahama disputes Mr. Kyerematen’s assertion that government appointees are backing a specific candidate out of concern for their jobs.
On September 6, Dr. Mahama said that Dr. Bawumia should raise the issue of intimidation if anyone had cause to do so. He was speaking to Accra-based Joy FM at the time.
“In 2007, when majority of government appointees were supporting Mr Alan Kyerematen, he still cited intimidation so for me if there’s any person who has had intimidations either direct or indirect, it’s the Vice President who should be complaining,” he said.
His remarks comes after Mr. Kyerematen’s announcement of his resignation from the party’s flagbearer competition on Tuesday, September 5, in which he categorised a number of events he said caused the party’s Super Delegates Conference.
The NPP flagbearer aspirant said that “After having carefully analysed the results of the said elections, it is absolutely clear to me from events leading to, during and after the elections, that the Special Delegates Conference was strategically and tactically skewed in favour of one particular aspirant.”
