Mexico: Pilot dies after plane crashes during stunt for gender reveal
A pilot lost his life on Sunday when the plane he was flying as part of a gender reveal party in Mexico crashed.
An online video shows the plane releasing pink smoke as it flies over a couple who are standing in front of an “Oh baby” sign that is surrounded by pink and blue balloons.
The plane is seen flying away from the group of people below at a point when it appears as though its left wing is separating from the fuselage.
The pilot died in the hospital after the crash, according to Navolato, Sinaloa state authorities who spoke to the media.
According to Alan Francisco Rangel of the Sinaloa Red Cross, paramedics treated the pilot at the scene of the crash in San Pedro, Navolato, before transferring him to a nearby hospital, where he died.
The pilot’s identity was withheld by the authorities, and it is unclear what caused the crash.
There have been no injury reports associated with the accident.
Gender reveal parties were created in order to inform family and friends whether they were about to give birth to a girl or a boy.
Some expectant parents have chosen risky and expensive gender reveals in place of traditional low-key events like cutting a cake with colored icing or perhaps lighting off some fireworks.
During a 2017 reveal in Arizona, guests were instructed to shoot at a temporary target that had the words “Boy” and “Girl” scrawled on it.”
When the target – packed with the highly explosive Tannerite – exploded, a blue cloud poofed upward and immediately ignited the surrounding brush.
It was a boy, and the party ultimately cost the guilty patrons more than $8 million in restitution after it started a 47,000-acre wildfire.
And in Iowa in October 2019, a gender reveal party went awry when the family unintentionally constructed a pipe bomb. A grandmother who was nearby was struck and killed by shrapnel that was launched when the device detonated, causing the entire pipe to explode.
