Kendrick Lamar to headline Super Bowl Halftime show for the first time as main act

Rapper Kendrick Lamar will headline the Super Bowl halftime show, as announced by the National Football League and Apple Music on Sunday.
This will mark Lamar’s second appearance at the prestigious event but his first time as the main act.
“Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why,” Lamar stated. “They got the right one.”
The Super Bowl is scheduled for February 9 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Lamar previously performed alongside Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Mary J. Blige during the 2022 Super Bowl halftime show, which won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety Special (Live).
At 37, the Compton-born rapper is renowned for his innovative lyricism and made history in 2018 as the first hip-hop artist to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music.
NFL Head of Music Seth Dudowsky praised Lamar’s ability to “craft moments that resonate, redefine, and ultimately shake the very foundation of hip-hop.”

Lamar has recently been in the spotlight due to a public feud with Canadian rapper Drake, with both artists releasing diss tracks earlier this year.
Notable tracks featuring Lamar include Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That” and Lamar’s own “Not Like Us.”
The Super Bowl, a major sports event in the US with millions of viewers, has seen performances from other iconic artists such as Rihanna, Usher, Beyoncé, the Rolling Stones, and Bruce Springsteen.
