Bolgatanga Technical University teachers and senior administrators halt planned strike
The Bolgatanga branch of the Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana (TUTAG) and the Technical University Senior Administrators Association of Ghana (TUSAAG) have chosen to halt their strike after separate emergency meetings on August 31, 2023.
The decision to suspend the strike, effective from Friday, September 1, 2023, was based on a consensus reached during these meetings. This consensus followed discussions held on August 29, 2023, involving TUTAG, TUSAAG, University Management, and the Governing Council as the mediator.
On August 25, 2023, the Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU) Branch of TUTAG and TUSAAG initiated an industrial action, citing concerns about the vice-chancellor, Professor Samuel Alnaa, attempting to modify aspects of their retirement benefits without the Ministry of Finance’s approval.
Additionally, they raised questions regarding perceived ambiguities in the Technical Universities Act (2026), Act 922 as amended.
On August 28, 2023, the Technical University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (TUTAG) expressed its support for the ongoing industrial action by the Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU) Chapter of TUTAG.
