The police sought a court injunction to prevent the Minority’s protest against BoG
After the Minority in Parliament declined to alter the planned protest route, the Ghana Police Service has submitted an application to the court.
The protest, organized by the Minority to voice their dissatisfaction with the Governor and deputies of the Bank of Ghana, alleging mismanagement, is slated for September 5, 2023.
According to an official statement from the Police, they conducted a security evaluation of the proposed protest routes and determined that they could potentially jeopardize public safety.
Despite urging the protest organizers to reconsider the designated routes, no mutual agreement was reached, prompting the Police to defer the decision to a court ruling.
The Police emphasized their ongoing commitment to safeguarding the right of individuals and groups to engage in constitutionally protected protests. However, they also underscored their duty to ensure public safety.
Simultaneously, the Minority in Parliament has expressed their dissatisfaction with the Accra Police Command’s decision to seek a court injunction against their September 5 protest.
