Alleged leaked tape: Bugri Naabu came to lie -COP Mensah strongly asserts
Daniel Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is said to have lied to the special parliamentary committee, according to COP George Alex Mensah, one of the security officials accused of being involved in the alleged plot to oust Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
Mr. Naabu insisted that he hired someone to record the conversation and insisted that the contentious leaked tape was accurate.
On Monday, August 28, 2023, he confirmed it when he testified before the committee looking into the matter.
Furthermore, he vehemently denied the tape’s veracity and asserted that it had been doctored so as to not accurately capture the details of the initial discussion he had with the former NPP Northern Regional Chairman.
“Bugri Naabu came here to lie,” COP Mensah strongly declared.
COP Mensah firmly asserted that there was no plan to remove the IGP and stated that he would be unable to confirm a number of details on the tape.
COP Mensah said in a direct conversation with Committee Chairman Samuel Atta Akyea, “this tape that was played today, to me was an edited tape, I have not heard any unedited tape for me to talk about as I sit here. The tape that I heard today, there are so many things in that tape that I don’t remember and there are so many things that we discussed that are not on the tape.”
“I’ve met Bugri Naabu four times, and we have discussed many things some of them private things that I am not ready to discuss in public. I had a meeting with Bugri Naabu, but I don’t remember having any plan to remove the IGP because I don’t remove the IGP.”
