Akufo-Addo inducts into office two new High Court Judges
On August 28, President Akufo-Addo officially inaugurated two new High Court Judges, instructing them to apply the law impartially, strictly, and free from bias.
He highlighted the importance of a respected Judiciary for the nation’s progress, emphasizing that the quality of justice delivery and judges’ conduct contributed to this respect.
The newly appointed judges are Justices Dorothy Ayodele Kingsly-Nyinah and Ama Sefenya Ayittey.
During a ceremony at the Jubilee House in Accra, the President administered the oaths of allegiance, secrecy, and the judicial oath. He congratulated them on their new roles and urged them to stand out by demonstrating integrity, honesty, and a profound understanding of the legal framework.
President Akufo-Addo criticized the practice of judges basing judgments on lower court decisions and citing them as law, or worse, issuing rulings without providing any legal basis. He urged the judges to be well-versed in legal precedent and ensure that their decisions were thoroughly grounded.
The President emphasized the need for fair and unbiased judgment, stressing the importance of safeguarding citizens’ fundamental rights.
Furthermore, he urged them to tackle the issue of delays in the legal process, which had negative implications for Ghana’s reputation as an investment-friendly nation.
President Akufo-Addo encouraged the judges to leverage technology to promote the rule of law and maintain public confidence, noting the significance of the E-justice system in expediting case management.
Justice Kingsly-Nyinah expressed gratitude for the President’s trust and reassured a commitment to uphold the constitution and all laws in their pursuit of equitable justice.
