NIA set to commence limited registration and issuance of Ghana Cards today
Starting from today, August 28, the National Identification Authority (NIA) is launching a 10-day limited registration process in eight regions for the issuance of Ghana Cards. This activity will conclude on September 8, 2023.
The reason for this initiative is the acquisition of 484,000 blank cards by the NIA from its technical partners. To ensure an efficient process, the registration has been divided into two phases.
The first phase is dedicated to enrolling individuals who are public sector employees on the Government of Ghana Payroll.
Subsequently, the second phase is scheduled to commence on September 11, 2023. This phase will focus on Ghanaians aged 15 and above who are applying for the Ghana Card for the first time.
Additionally, during Phase Two, individuals who need to replace lost, stolen, or damaged Ghana Cards, or wish to rectify their names or birth dates, will have the opportunity to do so.
As stated by the NIA on August 23, “The second phase will begin on Monday, 11th September 2023 for all Ghanaians aged 15 years and above who have not yet applied for the Ghana Card. During Phase Two, Ghanaians wishing to replace their lost, stolen, or damaged Ghana Cards or to correct their names or dates of birth may do so in accordance with law at any of the NIA’s 286 Operational Offices nationwide offering free registration.”
Moreover, a specialized mobile service has been introduced for households containing five or more members who intend to acquire the Ghana Card. This service enables the NIA team to visit homes for registration at a fee.
This service applies to households with five or more Ghanaian individuals and organizations with 50 or more Ghanaian members, offering registration services at specific locations for a fee.
The registration cost for households is GH¢150.00 per applicant, while the Institutional Registration costs GH¢100.00 per applicant, in addition to logistics fees.
