African Union suspends Niger following coup
The African Union (AU) has suspended Niger from all of its activities following the military coup last month.
All of the AU’s members were urged, along with the international community, to abstain from any action that might be seen as endorsing the junta in Niger by the Peace and Security Council.
The leaders of the coup were once again urged to release elected President Mohamed Bazoum.
Regional organization Ecowas for West Africa has already threatened to use force to reinstall him.
Although the Nigerian junta has stated that civilian rule cannot be reinstated for three years, Ecowas has deemed this as unacceptable.
