Minority to protest on September 5 against BoG Governor and his deputies

, Prot

The Minority in Parliament has disseminated a communication to the police authorities, apprising them of their intention to initiate a protest event on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.

The demonstration aims to voice dissent against Dr. Ernest Addison, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, and his deputy officials.

The Minority faction has vociferously criticized the Bank of Ghana’s leadership due to the substantial financial deficit of GH¢60 billion recorded by the institution during the 2022 fiscal year. Moreover, their censure extends to the contentious issue of monetary printing employed to fund government expenditures.

Calling for the resignation of the Governor and his deputies, the Minority group alleges financial mismanagement at the core of the central bank’s operations.

The letter, endorsed by Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader, outlines that the protest will involve the participation of Civil Society Organisations and other affiliated groups.

Directed to the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, the missive from the Minority Leader underlines that the impending demonstration serves as a platform to demand the immediate stepping down of the Governor, Deputy Governors, and the Bank’s Board of Directors.

Furthermore, the demonstration aims to spotlight the Minority’s grievances regarding what they contend as the illicit printing of approximately GH¢80 billion between 2021 and 2022 by the Bank of Ghana.

Scheduled to convene in front of the Parliament building, the Minority MPs plan to march along significant avenues in Accra. The protest route will encompass areas including Osu Cemetery Traffic Light junction, Makola-Rawlings Park, Opera Square, culminating at the premises of the Bank of Ghana.
