Hotlines have been released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration for applicants who experience mistreatment and extortion at the various passport offices located throughout the country.

The Ministry encourages candidates who experience extortion or mistreatment at the hands of staff to either call one of the hotlines or send emails, as seen in the image above.

During an unannounced visit to the passport office last week, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, the minister of foreign affairs, lamented the corruption that had permeated staff members’ and “goro boys and girls'” activities.

The Ministry expressed concern about these incidents in a statement dated August 17, explaining that the hotlines will put a stop to the problem.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has observed with grave concerns some complaints by applicants about extortions and mistreatment meted out to them at some Passport Application Centers (PACs). In an effort to deal with the menace, the Ministry is urging applicants who suffer any mistreatment or corruption to report such incidents”.

Additionally, the Ministry pleaded with applicants not to engage  employees who are not identified with name tags.

The Ministry reaffirmed that all officers who have served for more than a year will be replaced.
