Chinese home appliance maker Gree is recalling 1.56 million humidifiers due to burn and fire risks, following reports of 23 units catching fire, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission said on Wednesday.
According to the CPSC, consumers also reported 688 instances of overheating and $168,000 in property damage in addition to the fires.
The recall covers 42 different dehumidifier models from many different brands, including Kenmore, GE, SoleusAir, Norpole, and Seabreeze, that were produced between January 2011 and February 2014.
The recalled model numbers, which can be found printed on the product’s side, back, or front, are listed on the CPSC website.
The dehumidifiers should be unplugged right away, according to the CPSC, and Gree should be contacted for a refund.
“The dehumidifiers are white, beige, gray or black plastic and measure between 19 and 24 inches tall, 13 and 15 inches wide, and 9 and 11 inches deep,” the CPSC said.
