The Nigerian government’s goal of creating one million tech jobs has been supported by Google’s announcement that it will train 20,000 women and young people in Nigeria in digital skills.
The US company announced that it would also donate $1.6m (£1.26m).
It comes after discussions between Nigeria’s Vice-President Kashim Shettima and Olumide Balogun, Google’s director for West Africa, in Abuja.
Mr. Shettima welcomed the announcement and stated that the administration of President Bola Tinubu was devoted to maximizing the potential of Nigeria’s youthful population to advance the digital industry.
The plans were not given a firm timeline.
