A staff of Ministry of Energy arrested over GH¢287,775 ATM theft from ADB

On September 5 of this year, the Accra Circuit Court will continue hearing a theft case involving a secretary at the Ministry of Energy and the Agricultural Development Bank.

ADB ATMs are allegedly being manipulated by Regina Abanga, a secretary at the Ministry of Energy, who allegedly took GH¢287,775 out of them.

The accused regularly visited various ATM machines within the Accra metropolis and withdrew between GH¢2,000 and GH¢6,000 each time she went on operation, according to the facts of the case that were presented to the court.

The accused had an account at the Ridge branch of the bank between November 2022 and June 2023.

However, on June 15 at Labone, she was observed during one of her operations, and a man by the name of Solomon Inusah alerted ADB. Her ATM card was then disabled.

After lodging complaints to the bank about her difficulty using the card, she was detained.

According to police investigators, the accused admitted to the alleged activities and disclosed how money from it was used to finance a three-story building and buy a Toyota Vits car.

The defendant faced more than 100 theft-related charges after being arraigned.

Her bail was set at GHC 250,000 with three sureties, one of whom had to provide justification in the form of landed property worth GHC 125,000.

She has entered a plea of not guilty to the charges.

Additionally, the accused is required to show up at the Police Station each Wednesday.
