Ministry of Tourism to transform Osu Castle into Presidential and Government museum
The Osu Castle will be transformed into a presidential and government museum, according to plans released by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture.
The museum, according to the ministry, will honor the nation’s former presidents and promote a deeper comprehension of the political development of the country.
On Monday, August 14, 2023, in Accra, the announcement was made by the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dr Ibrahim Awal Mohammed.
He claimed the action was a part of the ministry’s efforts to establish a location that honors and remembers Ghana’s past presidents.
“We are going to build new museums across the country,” Dr Mohammed said. “In fact, we are going to start building what we call the heroes park for the big six. And across the regions, Saltpond, Tamale, Kyebi, we are going to modernize some of the circles, the Danquah circle, the Busia circle at 37 over the next year.”
“The Osu Castle, when refurbished and modernized, will be a presidential museum that will be dedicated to all former presidents of the Republic of Ghana,” he added.
The Destination Ghana Project, which aims to develop the tourism industry and raise its contribution to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), is another initiative the ministry is requesting media support for.
The Destination Ghana Project seeks to draw four million domestic and foreign tourists to a variety of tourist destinations throughout the country.
Dr. Mohammed made this known at an Editor’s Forum intended to galvanize media support for the expansion of the industry.
He stressed that the project’s goal is to generate more than $6 billion in revenue and more than 150,000 job opportunities over the course of four years.
