Collapsed Princess Town Bridge – Council Of State Member Go To The Rescue

Following the collapse of the Princess Town bridge that links the community to other towns, including Agona Nkwanta, the Ahanta West capital, the Divisional Chief of Princess Town, Nana Akwanzi Abraba IV, has led a team of technical experts, to inspect the situation.

The bridge which collapsed in June this year during torrential rains has brought untold hardships to the people.

According to Nana Akwanzi Abraba who doubles as a council of state member, the collapsed bridge is of great concern to her and the residents.

Amongst the technical team, was the CEO of Peekorb Construction, Mr Peter Obosu, who offered technical advice on how the situation can be salvaged.

Nana Akwanzi Abraba stated that the project seems capital intensive and would therefore liaise with the appropriate authorities to fix the situation.

” The situation is a worrying one, if a sick person needs medical attention, it will be difficult to get one considering the situation.

The government must intervene immediately. We are here to assess the situation to know how best we can solve it,” She said.

She therefore entreated inhabitants of Princess Town and its environs to exercise patience as she seeks help for them.

The Assemblymember for the Princess town, Joseph Bordo said the collapse has created a huge problem for the people who ply their trade using the bridge.

Another worrying factor is that due to the collapse, transportation fares have been increased bringing economic hardships to the people.

He said, ” The town is in distress because of the collapsed bridge which serves as a transit for commuters. Because of the situation, transportation fares have surged causing extra cost to passengers.

Apart from that, electricity in the community is also off because the staff of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) are unable to travel across the collapsed bridge to the community to fix their power glitches. So until the bridge is fixed, there is no way the power glitches would be resolved.”

Managing Director of Peekob Construction, Mr Peter Obosu, informed the local chiefs and council members that a temporary access route will be made for vehicles and pedestrians for the time being.
