Algeria bans “Barbie” film for promoting homosexuality
Barbie, an American movie that has been showing in cinemas locally for weeks, has been banned in Algeria.
The government claims that the recently released movie violates Algeria’s moral standards.
The film “promotes homosexuality and other Western deviances,” according to an official source cited by the news agency Reuters, and it “does not comply with Algeria’s religious and cultural beliefs.”
After its premiere on July 21, the Barbie movie has already surpassed the $1 billion mark.
On moral grounds, the movie has been banned in some other countries including Kuwait and Lebanon.
