In its largest recall of 2023, Toyota has issued a voluntary recall for a selection of Tundra and Tundra Hybrid trucks manufactured in 2022 and 2023.
The manufacturer reported on Thursday that 168,000 US vehicles have a plastic fuel tube that “could rub against a brake line and develop a fuel leak”. “In the presence of an ignition source”, the leak might result in a fire, Toyota continued.
In addition to preparing to make the replacement parts available, the company will replace the tube without charge. Toyota stated that its dealers will “will install protective materials and a clamp on the fuel tube at no cost to customers.”
By the start of October, Toyota will let owners of affected vehicles know. Owners can check whether their vehicle is affected by the recall by visiting Toyota.com/recall and entering their VIN number or license plate information.
The Tundra model from 2022 or 2023 has been recalled seven times. Previous recalls covered the electronic parking brake system of the car, loose axle nuts, and a software problem with the rearview camera of the car.
A truck-bed cover that could separate from the vehicle and pose a crash hazard led Toyota to conduct a safety recall of about 130,000 2022 and 2023 Tundras in the US in March.
On July 7, the most recent Tundra recall took place. It involved improperly welded chains which are used to hold a spare tire underneath the vehicle.
