Medical superintendent of Bimbilla hospital chased out of his office by angry youth

Bimbilla

The Medical Superintendent of Bimbilla Hospital, Adam Barhama, faced a demonstration by angry youth who demanded his removal, along with the accountant and administrator.

This resulted in the police escorting them to Yendi for safety.

Despite their return on Friday, the youth drove Barhama out again. The Municipal Chief Executive for Nanumba North, Abdulai Yaqoub, urged calm among the youth.

Bimbilla Hospital, in Northern Region’s Nanumba North municipality, had been disconnected from water due to unpaid bills amounting to GH¢240,000. Nurses went on strike, causing patient referrals.

The agitated youth accused Barhama of mismanagement, leading to his police-assisted exit.

On Friday, the Young Drivers Association cleaned the premises overgrown with weeds. Barhama returned but was again driven out by the youth, prompting police intervention. Abdulai Yaqoub reprimanded the youth and sent their petition to the regional minister.

Barhama’s alleged disrespect towards traditional authorities worsened the situation. Yaqoub called for patience as they await a response. The hospital remains non-operational without doctors, with one superintendent leaving due to heckling.

Barhama claimed his boss, the regional director of health services, instructed his return. However, he left due to threats from the youth. He doesn’t intend to return, reflecting on his contributions to the community. He denied disrespecting traditional authorities and expressed his communication with chiefs.
